Students from the Geology Club of Kaijo Junior and Senior High School (located in Shinjuku, Tokyo) conducted a geological field training camp in Akita Prefecture in early August. On August 6th, they visited the Faculty of International Resource Sciences and they had a lecture from Professor CHIYONOBU Shun.
Professor CHIYONOBU gave a lecture on the theme “Oil Fields in Akita Prefecture – Petroleum, Natural Gas, and CO?.” He started with the topic about mechanism of oil fields being formed in Akita (the presence of petroleum), as well as initiatives regarding the future energy development in consideration of global warming (development of technology for carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS)).
The approximately 35 participating students participated in this lecture, and spent productive time by asking technical questions such as “How can petroleum be discovered?” and “How is CO? injected with CCS technology?”.
